Awareness session on Dengue malaria in School: When Embedded Project Strategy Succeeded: Gwalior

In view of the increasing danger of dengue and the number of children suffering in Gwalior city, the need was felt to make the children and staff in the local schools aware and trained and an action plan was prepared by the team to provide training in schools, under which the schools were Prior to the program, a strategy was made to conduct programs in schools and training programs were started only after obtaining permission from the district authorities and taking written orders for permission.

During the program, the manager of Miss Sil School located in Ward 52 refused the embed team to conduct awareness activity and larva survey in his school while Ward 52 was in the category of sensitive area of health department for dengue case and the number of children in the school. Due to the large number, it was effective and necessary to do the activity there.

It was no less than a challenge for the EMBED team to do a training program there. That’s when the strategy set before starting the program came in handy.

Referring to the orders and permission letters issued by the District Collector and Joint Director Health Gwalior Division earlier by the EMBED team, the director of the school asked to organize the activity in the school, after that they respectfully invited the EMBED team to do the activity, training and larva. The proceedings of the survey were completed in the school, as well as the work of fogging etc. was completed in the schools due to joint action by coordinating with various departments like municipal corporation, which can be called a successful example of EMBED program.

Under the strategy regarding the training program in schools, the order and permission was issued by the district administration and a copy of it was obtained, after that by establishing contact with other related departments like Municipal Corporation, in an effort to protect the children of dengue sensitive areas along with the children. Awareness program, larval survey and fogging activities were successfully completed in schools.

Before EMBED team intervention; there was no plan of the district administration and the department to carry out activities in the schools, the reason behind which can also be said to be the lack of such trained human resource with the department. With the help of the EMBED team and with the initiative of the team, intervention in schools has been possible, as well as providing free sanitizer to the children, giving information about the prevention of COVID-19, has also been supported on behalf of the project.

Even after there was no provision of fogging in schools, action was started in this direction and fogging was started in schools also in coordination with the Municipal Corporation. thus, by providing training to 311 people in Miss Sil School, till now, 3958 children have been trained and larva disposal action has been taken, in which 33 schools have played their active participation and this sequence is going on continuously.
